Lightly brushed spine ends, tips still sharp. 256pp text is tight with a B/W photo frontispiece and PON on FEP with some handling soil and wrinkles from page turning throughout. Original clipped dj has light surface wear, has a couple closed tears and is chipping with partial title loss on the spine which has been repaired with matching paper and displays well in new mylar. Beginning with a brief history of the origin of the horse, it continues with an account of the various breeds of ponies which are to be found in Great Britain and the Eire. Then follow chapters on the care and training of ponies and on learning to ride them. Some chapters in the book are devoted to foxhunting, beginning with a short historical survey of Foxhunting through the Ages. Then follow chapters on Foxhounds and their life in Kennels, Behavior in the Hunting Field and Riding to Hounds. The section concludes with a realistic description of a day's hunting which can be enjoyed a boy (or girl) home for half-term. Other subjects include Hunter Trials, Point-to-Points, Showing and Jumping at Shows, Gymkhanas, Riding Tours and Camps. The book ends with an account of the Pony Club, giving examples of the knowledge that can be acquired by members as well as the fun they can get out of belonging to it.
