Part historical romp, part philosophical fever dream, My First Two Thousand Years follows Cartaphilus?the Wandering Jew?through the rise and ruin of empires, religions, and a few morally questionable bedroom encounters. First penned in the 1920s and still audacious in 1963 when Crest reprinted it, this oddball epic blends theology, erotica, satire, and historical fiction in a way that probably shouldn?t work?but somehow does. This copy has seen a few centuries of its own: yellowed pages, a slightly unhinged spine, and cover art that screams "pulp apocalypse." But hey, immortality was never meant to be tidy.
