Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. VINTER, John Alfred (1828-1905). Autograph letter signed to B. Brooks, most likely from B. Brooks & Sons Publishers. 104 Great Russell Street, Bedford Square, London, 3 January 1859. Single sheet bifolium folded, written on three sides. Folded as sent; light creasing on upper edge, small areas of adhesion to verso, minor spotting; very good. Concerning the production of a lithographic portrait of Sir Tatton. Vinter states that proofs of a lithograph cannot be supplied until the stone has been etched, explaining that etching takes place after the drawing is completed. He distinguishes between copper and steel plate printing and lithographic printing, remarking that Mr Brooks of Margaret St is a copper & steel plate printer, and recommending that the work be printed by Day & Son. He adds that he will take all pains to make the drawing satisfactory 'for my own credit's sake.' Addressed to B. Brooks Esq., very probably connected with the London engraving and publishing firm B. Brooks & Sons. Vinter (1828-1905) was a British painter and draughtsman, active in London and exhibiting at the Royal Academy and other institutions during the mid-nineteenth century. He is represented in British public collections and worked in portrait and genre subjects. Signed by Author(s).
