As I understand it this volume is one of a 7 volume set titled: The Abridged Compendium of American Genealogy First Families of America by Frederick A. Virkus. This large hard cover book (7 ½ x 10 x 2 ½ inches 815 pages) was published as Volume III of the set dated 1928 by F.A. Virkus & Company of Chicago. It is bound in black boards simulated to look like leather with gilt titles on cover and spine. There are a fair number of illustrations including the Armorial Bearings (Coats of Arms) of the Families and photos of the Homesteads. There are thumb-holes for Immigrant Ancestors and the Alphabetical Index. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The hard covers are rubbed and bumped and there is some loss of the faux leather finish particularly on the edge and at the top & bottom of the spine. Inside a former owner has left his penciled name on the title page (which could probably be erased). The interior pages are clean and bright without any real toning and no foxing. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.…
