GG1651?Martinus Stuart (1765-1826) was een Nederlandse predikant en historicus. Geboren op 4 oktober 1765 in Rotterdam, studeerde hij theologie aan het Remonstrants Seminarium in Amsterdam. Hij begon zijn carrière als predikant in Dokkum in 1787 en diende later in Utrecht en vanaf 1793 in Amsterdam. Stuart was een voorstander van de vereniging van alle protestantse kerken en had een patriottische gezindheid.Naast zijn werk als predikant was Stuart een productief historicus. Hij publiceerde onder andere een dertigdelige reeks over de Romeinse geschiedenis en diverse werken over de vaderlandse geschiedenis. Koning Lodewijk Napoleon benoemde hem tot ridder in de Orde van Verdienste en tot lid van het Koninklijk Instituut. Koning Willem I stelde hem aan als "historieschrijver van het koninkrijk", wat resulteerde in de publicatie van de "Jaarboeken van het Koningrijk der Nederlanden". ?Stuart trouwde op 19 september 1787 met Theodora Magdalena Robbé, met wie hij veertien kinderen kreeg. Hij overleed op 22 november 1826 in Amsterdam. ?NB Met " magen". worden niet de magen van de 14 nagelaten kinderen bedoeld, maar dit is een oud woord voor bloedverwanten of familieleden, meestal van vaderszijde.
