First edition of this history of the University of Franeker (founded in 1585, and no longer in existence), with short "éloges" on the Curators; lists of secretaries, librarians, etc.; and extensive bio-bibliographical notices on nearly 150 professors and lecturers, including Schotanus, Drusius, Maccovius, Amesius, Winsemius, Witsius, Regius, Hemsterhuis, Burmann, Camper, and a great many others. The editior, Emo Lucius Vriemoet (1699-1760), was professor of oriental languages and Hebrew antiquities at Franeker; he composed grammars of both Hebrew and Arabic, the latter based upon the methodology of Jacob Alting and Johannes Buxtorf. Provenance: At page 132 a half-page contemporary manuscript note dated 1786 has been added by B[avius] Voorda, professor of law at Franeker, to augment entry XVII for Sixtus Arcerius, professor of Greek in the early seventeenth century.
