In octavo broche 31 pages Alphonse Vulpian (1794 - 1829), avocat au barreau de Paris, vaudevilliste, a notamment collaboré avec Alexandre Dumas, père, à deux vaudevilles sous le pseudonyme de Gustave Vulpian : La Chasse et l'amour en 1825 et La Noce et l'enterrement en 1826. Il épousa en 1814 Caroline d'Arnault (1797 - 1857), fille d'Edme d'Arnault de Moussy, écuyer, greffier à la deuxième chambre des enquêtes, et de Marie-Antoinette Delaune, d'où, parmi plusieurs enfants : Alfred Vulpian le grand neurologue ami de Charcot Alfred Vulpian (1826 - 1887), médecin et physiologiste, suppléant de Flourens au Muséum, agrégé à la faculté, devint membre de l'Académie de médecine en 1866. En 1867, il est professeur d'anatomie pathologique à l'École de médecine. Une controverse l'opposa à la hiérarchie catholique qui l'accusa de matérialisme. Malgré une pétition adressée au Sénat, il conserva la sympathie universelle du monde savant. Nommé en 1872 professeur de pathologie expérimentale et comparée, puis en 1875 doyen de la faculté de médecine, il devint en 1876 membre de l'Institut (Académie des sciences) et, en 1886, secrétaire perpétuel de cette Académie.
