Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book is a comprehensive guide to identifying and treating insect infestations in agricultural crops focusing on some of the most important knowledge in the field and indicating potential remedies. The author was inspired to write this book due to the common difficulty growers face in determining whether a problem is caused by insects and, if so, which kind. The author has carefully compiled information from a variety of sources, including scientific journals, to provide readers with a practical reference that can be used to identify and treat insect damage to crops. The book includes guidance on diagnosing insect infestations based on symptoms, and preventive measures, as well as remedies. It also discusses the behavior and life cycle of different insect pests to aid in identifying the cause of damage. This book is a valuable resource for farmers, gardeners, and anyone interested in protecting their crops from insect damage. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book, originally published in 1914, is the first report on a two year study of crop pests in West Virginia and is significant because it establishes an annual report on such topics to be presented to the governor and state legislature. The author, in addition to providing detailed information on orchard and nursery inspection, gathered across 13 counties at the time, also presents an analysis of the recently passed crop pest law. The author discusses, at length, the issue of cedar rust impacting apple orchards and offers a detailed plan by which to address the issue. Further, this book includes the text of the 1914 state crop pest law for West Virginia, which created the state crop pest commission and defined its powers and duties, as well as a number of proposed amendments to that law and the reasons why each amendment is proposed. The proposed amendments would have expanded on the powers and duties of the state crop pest commission and defined further such terms as 'plant' and 'person', established civil jurisdiction to assist the commission in carrying out its duties, created the position of commissioner of agriculture, and more. Significant in its breadth of topics, the author's work here captures a moment of transition in the fight against crop pests as West Virginia transitioned from a frontier state to an industrial and agricultural hub. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
