Blind embossed black leather bindings with the spine titles and elaborate spine decorations gold-stamped. Very light edge wear to the bindings. Some light surface scuffing. We have treated the leather bindings with a profession…al book conservator's leather dressing to good effect. Pages are tight and clean with no marks. Foxing here and there. Marbled edges to the text blocks. Marbled end sheets and paste-downs. No name of previous owner. No musty odor. No water stains. No sun fading. 1008pp and 865pp respectively. The account of the American Civil War begins on page 603 of volume I and continues to the end of volume II.
