Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No dust jacket. First Edition. Dissertation dated January 1977. Education institution is not stated but Hampshire College is mentioned in the text. Title page states this is a "Division III Thesis." VG faux leather boards. No dust jacket. 8.25 x 11.25 in., unpaginated (ca 200 pp.). Climbing as a way to self-understanding. This thesis is interesting for a couple of reasons. First, it relates the author's climb - with Jon Krakauer and Thomas Davies - of the Moose's Tooth, the second ascent of the main summit & by a new route (which has become the standard route). Second, the last page is a copy of Galen Rowell's response to the author's questionnaire he sent out as part of his thesis. In answer to the question "What do you personally feel is the value of teaching climbing?", Rowell responded "Money.".
