Charles Shirley Walgamott (1857-1937) was a pioneer from Iowa who moved to the Idaho Territory in 1875. In this book, he recounts his experience of life on the frontier, which, according to Ramon Adams, includes details about "vigilantes, stage robberies, and other outlaw material. " Many chapters in this book previously appeared in Walgamott's "Reminiscences of Early Days, " a two-volume set that was published in 1926 and 1927. Six-Guns 2281. DJis not price clipped and is preserved in mylar and has pretty heavy wear along spine and edges; a 1" triangular piece missing from the top and a 3/4" triangular and a 2" by 1/2" piece missing from the bottom. Front has tears along the flap fold and 3" closed tear near the bottom right corner. Back flap is cracking and has a small piece missing about three inches from the bottom. Published in two volumes, this being the rare volume one self published in 1926. Volume two was published in 1927 by the Idaho Citizen newspaper in Twin Falls, Idaho. This book, volume one, contains thirty-six different historical stories from the early days of the Snake River country of Idaho. Told by one who was there and experienced most of it. A SERIES OF HISTORICAL SKETCHES AND HAPPENINGS IN THE EARLY DAYS OF SNAKE RIVER VALLEY. Charles Shirley Walgamott arrived by stage at Rock Creek Station, Idaho Territory, on August 8, 1875. In an untamed land, far from his native Iowa, he survived illness, hardship, and lawlessness with his humor intact. Never a stranger to work, Walgamott mined, trapped, ranched, and hunted. While living with settlers, Indians, and outlaws alike, he amassed a trove of unforgettable experiences. Six Guns 2281 says "contains some material on the vigilantes, stage robberies, and other outlaw material." Also there is a chapter on Diamondfield Jack Davis and another on vigilantes. Chapters on the cattle industry of early days in Idaho and topics of the cow camp Bob Hall (1895-1970) was a noted Western artist from Butte, MT who traveled the West, well known for his paintings of mines, and worked extensively for the Federal Art Project during the Great Depression. Fine, bright, tight copy in a fresh, attractive dust jacket with minor wear to the extremities.
