Very minor wear to extremities with nothing rubbed through, top and bottom of spine just barely beginning to fray, lower rear corner bumped, some minor evidence of silverfish grazing,…textblock ever so slightly canted, spine very slightly faded, cloth clean and bright, else very good to near fine with no internal markings. No dust jacket. Walter A. Tompkins was a prolific writer of both fiction and non-fiction, most of the latter having to do with Southern California, especially the Santa Barbara area. BUSHWACK BULLETS is one of his earlier pieces of fiction and is relatively rare. Thompson's papers are located at the University of California at Santa Barbara. "Hap and Everett, adopted children of the Yaqui County sheriff and his wife, were known as the Kingman twins. Actually Hap was the son of the upright rancher Warren Allen, who had been killed by bushwack bullets, while Everett's father was the ruffianly cattle thief, Dev Hewett. The boys were ignorant of their own identity until they cam of age. And then, for reasons of his own, the crooked lawyer entrusted with telling them the truth pretended that Hap was the rustler's son, and gave to him Hewett's legacy: a six-gun, and instructions to use it to murder Dev Hewett's ancient enemy."
