Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. New Approaches to the Archaeology of Beekeeping aims to take a holistic view of beekeeping archaeology (including honey, wax, and associated products, hive construction, and participants in this trade) in one large interconnected geographic region, the Mediterranean, central Europe, and the…Atlantic Facade. Current interest in beekeeping is growing because of the precipitous decline of bees worldwide and the disastrous effect it portends for global agriculture. As a result, all aspects of beekeeping in all historical periods are coming under closer scrutiny. The volume focuses on novel approaches to historical beekeeping but also offers new applications of more established ways of treating apicultural material from the past. It is also keenly interested in helping readers navigate the challenges inherent in studying beekeeping historically. The volume brings together scholars working on ancient, medieval, early modern, and ethnographic evidence of beekeeping from a variety of perspectives. In this sense it will serve as a handbook for current researchers in this field and for those who wish to undertake research into the archaeology of beekeeping. 17 papers take a holistic view of beekeeping archaeology (including honey, wax, associated products, hive construction, and trade) in one large interconnected geographic region, the Mediterranean, central Europe, and the Atlantic Facade. The book serves as a handbook for current and future researchers considering the archaeology of beekeeping. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. Reading Ancient Objects Inside Out adopts two complementary approaches to advance the study of ancient Greek vases: a philological view, scripta, and an iconographic view, eikon, the latter comprising two parts, one dealing with the figurative vases already included in the catalogue Myths, G…ods and Heroes. Greek Vases in Portugal / Mitos, Deuses e Herois. Vasos gregos em Portugal, and another covering vases that are not included in this work, but which due to their historical and archaeological importance have been considered here, including those without figural motifs. The first part, scripta, brings together seven collaborations in which an essentially mythological, literary and cultural perspective is explored, suggested by the motifs represented on the vases that make up this project. The second part, eikon, additionally includes the iconographic study of some vases made possible thanks to the contributions of various specialists. Collected papers examine ancient Greek vases in Portugal through two approaches: scripta explores mythological, literary, and cultural themes, while eikon provides an iconographic analysis. The study includes vases from Myths, Gods and Heroes and others of historical importance, including non-figurative e Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.
