Ließ sich 1888 als praktischer Arzt in Danzig nieder. 1907-28 war er Direktor der inneren Abteilung des Städtischen Krankenhauses, seit 1910 Professur. 1913 hielt er sich zu Studienzwecken am Biologischen Institut auf Helgoland auf. Im Ersten Weltkrieg war er im Rang eines Generaloberarztes beratender Arzt eines Armeekops. Nachdem ihn die Nationalsozialisten 1938 zur Aufgabe seiner Praxis gezwungen hatten, emigrierte er über die Niederlande nach Großbritannien, 1943 weiter in die USA und war als Consiliarius tätig. Nach W. wurden das 'Wallenbergsche Syndrom' und das 'Wallenbergsche Bündel' benannt. 1895-1928 gab er mit Ludwig Edinger, nach dessen Tod allein die 'Jahresberichte über die Leistungen auf dem gebiete der Anatomie des Zentralnervensystems' heraus."
