Die Kenntnis von der Ionosphäre ist durch direkte Beobach tungen so weit fortgeschritten, daß die Berechnung der Ausbreitungser scheinungen aus dem Zustand der Ionosphäre mit ausreichender Genauig keit erfolgen kann. Auch die Prognose der mittleren Ausbreitungsbe dingungen ist mit Hilfe der Periodenforschung befriedigend gelöst. Da gegen steckt die Vorhersage von Störungen noch in den Kinderschuhen. Wenn man sich nun die Frage stellt, ob der derzeitige Einsatz der Radio wellen von den längsten bis zu den kürzesten diesen Erkenntnissen ent spricht, so muß darauf leider mit Nein geantwortet werden. Für die heutige Wellenverteilung sind fast mehr historische und politische Gesichtspunkte maßgebend als physikalische. So ist z. B. die Verwendung der Bereiche von 550 kHz -1600 kHz für den Rundfunk einfach damit zu erklären, daß bei seiner Einführung dieser Wellenbereich noch nicht von den Schiffs- und Küstenfunkstellen benutzt wurde. Tatsächlich wäre der Bereich von 180-1200 kHz dafür wesentlich besser geeignet. Auf die politischen Hintergründe aber will ich nicht eingehen. Das ist ein heißes Eisen, das ich mit ungeschützten Händen lieber nicht anfassen möchte. Ionosphäre und drahtloser Weit verkehr 49 Schrifttum (Nur zusammenfassende Darstellungen) U. S.
