Trotz ihrer grundlegenden Bedeutung wurde ihr jedoch weniger Aufmerksamkeit zuteil als der Reduktion. In der Wesensschau soll das Apriori evident selbstgegeben werden, wodurch sich die Aprioriforschung von einer transzendental-psychologischen Konstruktion zu einer im phänomenologischen Sinne positiven Untersuchung wandelt. Die Wesensschau selbst soll zuerst im Erlebnis wiederum positiv ausgewiesen und phänomenologisch untersucht werden, was im ersten Sinne als eine Phänomenologie der Wesensschau bezeichnet werden kann.
