Remaining interior in good condition.; Catalogue from an exhibition held at China House Gallery, New York City from March 18, 1983-May 29, 1983, The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, from July 24, 1983-September 11, 1983 and Asian Art Museum of San Francisco from October 3, 1983-January 15, 1984.;"The major contributors to the present exhibition, which is the first in the Western world devoted exclusively to Chinese bamboo carving, are the following scholars and collectors: Wang Shixiang, Dr. Ip Yee and Mrs. Julia Y. Cheng. Wang Shixiang, Senior Member of the Research Institute for Conservation of Cultural Properties, Beijing, wrote specially for us the essay, "The Art of Chinese Bamboo Carving," as well as rushed to New York the manuscript of his recent article in Wenwu entitled "Authentication of Bamboo Carving," in time for inclusion in this catalogue. Furthermore, when we met in Beijing during my October, 1982 visit, he gave freely of his invaluable help and advice for the selection of objects. He also obtained the participation of Xu Bingfang, a leading contemporary traditionalist bamboo carver, to make two demonstration pieces especially for this show and of Liu Wanqi, a trail blazer and modernist, who loaned us his unusual sculpture of a boy's head." excerpt from the Acknowledgements by Wan-go H.
