"Liberaler Freischärler, in der Bundesversammlung Mitglied des Storchenklubs und der Linken. Aus persönlichen und sozialpolitischen Gründen kam es zu Spannungen zwischen Wapf und seiner Partei. Zeitweise pflegte er gute Beziehungen zu konservativen Führerpersönlichkeiten wie Philipp Anton von Segesser." (HLS) - Wapf publizierte mehrfach zu unterschiedlichen Themen v.a. in den Jahren 1876-1884 (vgl. swisscovery) -- Noch bevor 1848 europaweit revolutionäre Umsturzprozesse die Anciens Régimes durch demokratische Forderungen in Frage und auf die Probe stellten, fand in der Schweiz 1847 ein Bürgerkrieg statt, der sogenannte Sonderbundskrieg. "Dieser bewaffnete Konflikt bildete den Abschluss jahrelanger Auseinandersetzungen zwischen fortschrittlich gesinnten und bewahrenden Kräften. [.] Angesichts der klaren Übermacht des von General Henri Dufour geführten Tagsatzungsheeres gegenüber den kleinen Streitmächten der Sonderbundskantone [.] war der eigentliche Bruderkrieg innerhalb weniger Tage ohne grosses Blutvergiessen [.] entschieden. Damit war der Weg frei für eine radikale Umgestaltung der politischen Verhältnisse.
