"Dieser bewaffnete Konflikt bildete den Abschluss jahrelanger Auseinandersetzungen zwischen fortschrittlich gesinnten und bewahrenden Kräften. [.] Angesichts der klaren Übermacht des von General Henri Dufour geführten Tagsatzungsheeres gegenüber den kleinen Streitmächten der Sonderbundskantone [.] war der eigentliche Bruderkrieg innerhalb weniger Tage ohne grosses Blutvergiessen [.] entschieden. Damit war der Weg frei für eine radikale Umgestaltung der politischen Verhältnisse.
