Condition: Very Good. unnumbered [16]-page tourist brochure. Stapled and folded as issued. 23 cm. Modest soiling and wear. Described as Turbo-Electric Twin Screw Liners, these two ships were built for the Ward Line and placed in Service in 1930. This brochure emphsaizes the speed and comfort offered by these ships. Travel to Cuba remained popular during the Depression. The SS Morro Castle was destroyed in 1934 by a devastating fire off the New Jersey coast in which 135 passengers and crew members died. The SS Oriente remained in service with the Ward line until 1941 when she was requisitioned and refitted for military use. The ship was renamed USAT Thomas H. Barry and used as a troop ship.
