This handbook contains the substance of a series of lectures given, under the auspices of the University of Bristol and the Bristol Archaeological Research Group, in 1962. In the same year a Conference of Editors was held by the Council for British Archaeology. Duplicated editions of this handbook have been issued. The demand is so insistent, the material so useful, that a printed edition, with revisions and illustrations is here produced.
