In 2004 Webb would be found dead in his apartment, shot in the head twice, which police ruled a suicide. A 2014 film, Kill the Messenger, dramatized Webb's life, his claims, and the severe backlash he faced from the media. To his supporters Webb remains an inspirational journalist who persevered in the face of tremendous official corruption and coverup.
