Weeks, the archaeologist who rediscovered the tomb now known as KV 3, tells for the first time the extraordinary story of how he and his team found what is rapidly becoming Egypt's best-known archaeological site since the discovery of King Tutankharnun's tomb three-quarters of a century previously. News of the impending road works at the entrance to the Valley of the Kings encouraged Weeks to follow up an early nineteenth-century traveller's sketch of an intriguing tomb that had vanished under the detritus of careless excavations seventy years ago. For several months Weeks excavated in the mouth of the valley and ultimately uncovered the entrance of KV 5.
