Paperback. Condition: Good. The mountain village of Zermatt, Switzerland is nestled in a valley between steep mountains, and it is dominated by the Matterhorn. When you exit your Swiss-red train, and see the cobblestone streets and horses and carriages, you immediately will notice are no cars. The air is clean and fresh, and the people want to keep it that way The main street bustles with people shopping, dining and having a good time, and there are no tour busses anywhere. In short, everything is cute and fun, and you immediately know where Walt Disney got many of his ideas for Disneyland, as you can see the Matterhorn from nearly every prospective in the Zermatt village. And this is exactly why photographer John D. Weigand and author and poet Penelope Dyan went there, to capture some of the magic of Zermatt. It seemed like the perfect spot for kids, nestled in the serenity of the Swiss Alps. . . just waiting to be ogled and explored. The Zermatt nights were even more beautiful than the day as the Weigand photographs portray, but most amazing of all was the Matterhorn, shining white against the sky by day, and full of amazing color by night.…

Paperback. Condition: Good. Dubrovnik is a Croatian city on the Adriatic Sea coast, at the terminal end of the Isthmus of Dubrovnik. It is one of the most prominent tourist destinations on the Adriatic, a seaport and the centre of Dubrovnik-Neretva county. But this is not what is fascinating about this place. Kids and adults alike will marvel at what they see when they approach Dubrovnik, because what you see and what you find (kid's are very keen on exploring and finding things) is a walled city, a real bridge that goes over a moat and a drawbridge And there is much, much more Photographer John D. Weigand and Penelope Dyan (attorney, award winning author, poet and former teacher) let you travel with them through the photographs and words of this book, not spoon feeding facts, but letting the eye capture a moment to stir an imagination. Learning is about exploration, and whether you explore through a book, or in person by visiting a place, kids see what the adult eye doesn't see. Dyan and Weigand follow the things that kids see, not adults. Kids are encouraged, as with all Dyan/Weigand travel books to make this book their own, to add to it, insert their own photographs, postcards and words. Learning should always be a personal thing.…

Paperback. Condition: Good. At Lake Tahoe, California the landscape changes along with the beauty of nature. This is a fun place to hike, bike or simply take a walk. You can drive from place to place and explore all on your own. There are bridges to cross, waterfalls to see, and the largest alpine lake in the United States, Lake Tahoe in Emerald Bay State Park, a California state park preserving Lake Tahoe's Emerald Bay, a National Natural Landmark When you go to this place, there is more than anyone could ever put into any single book. This is why award winning author, attorney and former teacher, Penelope Dyan, and photographer John D. Weigand NEVER show everything there is to see in their travel guides for kids. Dyan believes imagination and adventure go together, and so these books look through the eyes of a child and see what a child sees--NO spoon-fed facts here These books have very large print that a child can see the words easily as little eyes begin to read. The repetition, rhyme and humor all contribute to the process of learning. This is a book a child can make his or her own. Older children should write in the margins, take notes on what they see, and also insert their own photographs and drawings. No, there aren't any envelopes or flaps to stuff; and there are no fill in the blanks. This would destroy the book's purpose. The purpose is to learn to think.…

Paperback. Condition: Good. Messina, is the capital of Sicily. Founded by the Greeks, it has a long history of having to rebuild itself, giving a strength to its inhabitants, who do not readily give in to any adversity as a people. In 1783, an earthquake destroyed much of the city. It took decades to rebuild. Another earthquake damaged the city on November 16, 1894, and Messina was almost entirely destroyed by an earthquake and tsunami. December 28, 1908, that killed approximately 60,000 people and destroyed most of its ancient architecture. The city was rebuilt in the following year. Then there was further damage from massive Allied air bombardments in 1943, during World War I. But this book is not about that, this book is about how all these things impacted and shaped the minds and souls of the people of Messina, Sicily; and this is the real story behind the story. Practice reading skills through word recognition, and through word repetition and rhyme, and think about Messina's people. Try to imagine the place of antiquity founded by the Greeks and then see more of this place as you watch the free music video that goes with this book, posted on the Bellissimavideo YouTube channel.…
