Biddeford: John E. Butler & Co., 1874. Wells spent a lifetime engaged in the coasting and West Indies trades, and gives a close account of his activities in these areas in the first half of the 19th century. He was a typical industrious and intelligent Yankee sailor. His narrative has the steady rhythm of adventures at sea and conditions in port. This is quite a scarce account, unlisted in Howes, Sabin or Smith. With an albumen photograph of Wells as an old man, serving as frontispiece. Spine sunned and chipped at top edge, else very good condition, in publisher's cloth binding with gold cover lettering. 17 cm. 204 pp. b/w photograph tipped in as frontispiece Wells spent a lifetime engaged in the coasting and West Indies trades, and gives a close account of his activities in these area.

Cloth on covers is a bit rubbed, and sunned along spine and top edges of boards. Very minor split to cloth toward head of spine where the border is blind-stamped. Small stain and even smaller white scuff on back cover. Lettering is beginning to fade on the outer ends of the lines of text, though remains bright in the middle.
