This is a first US edition copy of The Time Machine, the 1895 dystopian novella by the British author H.G. Wells (1866-1946), who wrote a preface specifically for this edition. 86 pages, finely designed and illustrated by the American designer William Addison Dwiggins (1880-1956). It comes in a slipcase which is in poor condition. A little bit of the paper has come off the bottom of the spine. The rest of the book, inside and out, is in perfect condition.

Stated first printing of the first one-volume edition of Wells' seven famous Science Fiction novels, with an original preface by the author. In the rare W.A. Dwiggins dust jacket which features a scene from The War of the Worlds. Book is fine and unmarked. Jacket is very good, clean and bright, the only flaw a `1/2" horizontal chip across the top of the spine not affecting the text. Protected by an archival Mylar jacket cover, this a very attractive, solid copy of an extremely scarce Wells item.

Januar 1918 in Schwerin; 13. Dezember 2019 in Darmstadt), war eine international bekannte deutsche Typografin und Buchbinderin. Von 1951 bis zu seinem Tod im Jahre 2015 war sie mit Hermann Zapf verheiratet. Hermann Zapf (* 8. November 1918 in Nürnberg; 4. Juni 2015 in Darmstadt) war ein deutscher Typograf, der als Designer für Buch- und Schriftgrafik vor allem als Schriftdesigner und Kalligraf tätig war.
