Aus der Bibliothek von Prof. Wolfgang Haase, langjährigem Herausgeber der ANRW und des International Journal of the Classical Tradition (IJCT). - Mit Widmung des Autors. - Name des Autors auf dem Einband unterstrchen, sonst tadellos. - Aus dem Text: Der im Schatzhaus des Palastes von Persepolis…gefundene und heute im Museum von Teheran aufbewahrte Marmortorso einer sitzenden Frau (Nr. 1 Abb. 1) ist aus zwei Bruchstücken zusammengesetzt. Ein drittes, im gleichen Schatzhaus, aber entfernt, gefundenes Fragment bewahrt ein Stück der rechten Hand mit dem Ansatz des Daumens und den umgeschlagenen Spitzen von Zeige-, Mittel- und Ringfinger. Der Torso von Persepolis ist zweifellos 331 v. Chr. bei der Zerstörung des Palastes durch Alexander den Großen unter die Erde gekommen3. Zuvor war die Statue offenbar mehr als 100 Jahre lang in dem Schatzhaus wohlverwahrt. Die Tatsache, daß Kopf und Glieder gewaltsam abgeschlagen sind, und die Verstreuung der Fragmente könnten auf eine gezielte Verstümmelung hinweisen. Diese Vermutung drängt sich um so mehr auf, als der Torso selbst in makelloser Reinheit erhalten ist. Irgend etwas muß den plündernden Makedonen und Griechen das Bildwerk zum Ärgernis gemacht haben. Den bekannten achämenidischen Audienzreliefs mit den Bildern des Dareios und seines Kronprinzen Xerxes (Abb. 9), die im Hof des gleichen Schatzhauses zutage gekommen sind4, haben sie weniger übel mitgespielt, obwohl doch diese beiden Großkönige aus der Sicht der Griechen die Verursacher der hellenischpersischen Feindschaft waren. Eines der beiden Reliefs ist fast unberührt. Was also hat der griechischen Heroine im fernen Persepolis den Haß ihrer Landsleute zugezogen? Zuerst gewahrt man die Säulen der Tempel: Im Westen die spätantike Säulenfront d…es Saturntempels und die drei Ecksäulen des Vespasiantempels, im Süden die hoch aufragenden Säulen des Kastortempels (anschließend in der Nordostecke die wiederaufgerichtete Partie des Vestatempels). Auf bloße Säulenfronten oder auf Dreiergruppen reduziert und isoliert, sind die Ringhallen der Tempel gleichsam in Säulendenkmäler verwandelt. Der Zahn der Zeit hat die Mauern abgenagt. Allein der Tempel des vergöttlichten Kaiserpaares Antoninus und Faustina in der Nordostecke gibt, wenngleich die barocke Kirchenfassade von S. Lorenzo in Miranda eine scharfe Caesur zwischen die Bauteile Cella und Vorhalle legt, noch eine Anschauung vom Körper und der Masse des Bauwerks. Sprache: Deutsch Gewicht in Gramm: 550.
