Cloth. 15 x 9 cm. Women's Pavilion 1876 World's Fair Ribbon Souvenir - silk bookmark/ribbon memento. Silk woven on a Jacquard loom by Werner Itschner & Co. During the first American World's Fair - celebrating the 100 year anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence - this item was woven on site. Small portable Jacquard looms were often set up on the grounds of these large exhibitions - an extraordinary way for the public to see the process of the mementos being made. Lightly toned, otherwise clean. Cream silk, green thread. Very good.
