Sin is divided into provinces, such as Youth's Pleasure Field, characterized by a preoccupation with fleeting pleasures and temptations. The author uses the inhabitants of these provinces to illustrate human weaknesses and the lure of worldly desires. The book serves as a cautionary tale against succumbing to the allurements of sin and encourages readers to seek a higher purpose. Through the allegory of the emigrants' journey, the author prompts readers to reflect on their own spiritual path, emphasizing the importance of choosing virtue over vice. The book explores the power of personal influence and the responsibility of those who have found salvation to guide others toward a better life. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

First Edition
cat40a (illustrator). Auburn: Moses, 1854. First edition. Original brown blind-stamped cloth, spine designed and lettered in gilt. Pale green end papers. Some fading of spine, some wear to the top of the spine, brown paper remnants pasted to end papers, ink library stamps on a number of pages; a very good copy in general. Wright II: 587. Wright also cites a New York edition of 1854, but all copies of the New York edition which we have examined have had a frontispiece, and an extra "Introduction to the Illustrated Edition" dated 1859. We believe that the first edition had no frontispiece (there is no evidence of one in this copy), and that the New York copies, though retaining the 1854 date on the title page, are in fact an 1859 reissue with a frontispiece. An allegory after the fashion of Bunyan, with states called No-Faith and Formality, and place names such as Wrecking Place, Philosopher's Valley, and False-Hope Mountain. An uncommon book.
