A few annotations in ink and regular pencil from a private owner, the former owner also underlined throughout in red pencil, and tipped in a newspaper obituary for Grosvenor Goodhue.

Foxing and offsetting to engravings. Gilt edges to the text block. Bookplate of Hugh Fattorini. Ralph Thoresby (1658-1725) was an antiquarian and topographer, born in Leeds. He initially worked for his father, as a wool and cotton merchant, before turning to antiquities. Thoresby's museum included antiquities, coins and "curiosities." Thomas Dunham Whitaker (1759-1821) was an English clergyman and topographer, who was vicar of Whalley from1809. He shared Thoresby's interest in coins and the antiquities of Yorkshire. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1818.

Also includes a Life of Thoresby, who has been called the First Historian of Leeds. The frontispiece is a mezzotint portrait of Thoresby, with an engraved view of Leeds by J.
