Hardback. Condition: Like New. Facsimile Edition. Octavo Size [approx 15.5 x 22.8cm]. Fine copy in Fine dustjacket. As new condition. DJ protected in our purpose-made plastic sleeve. Black and white frontispiece. 64 pages. Originally published in 1905. Includes a lengthy preamble by Derek Whitelock on Adelaide at the time the book was first published and a brief biography of Thistle Anderson [Mrs Herbert Fisher]. This is followed by a facsimile of Thistle Anderson's book. The book drew a ferocious response at the time of publication as in it the author made such claims as that there were more opium dens in Adelaide than Melbourne. Nevertheless it still went into 10 editions - proving a best seller. A fascinating glimpse of the life and customs of Adelaide at the beginning of the twentieth century. Robust, professional packaging and tracking provided for all parcels.
