Sie wurde in d…er Bundesverfassung von 1848 festgeschrieben. Gottfried Kellers Novelle Das Fähnlein der sieben Aufrechten (1860) beschwört in heiterer Weise und mit einigem warnenden Donnergrollen diese Gründerzeit herauf. Urs Widmer hat 1989 das Fähnlein neu herausgegeben und mit einem einführenden Essay versehen, der die Novelle als Übergangswerk interpretiert, das 'rittlings zwischen den Zeiten sitzt', sowohl in Kellers Biografie wie auch im großen Narrativ der Schweizer Geschichte des 19. Jahrhunderts. In dem kleinen Zeitsprung keimt die 'schmerzende Erkenntnis, dass diese herrliche Demokratie eine dem geldgierigsten Kapitalismus besonders günstige Staatsform war'. Widmer schreibt von seinem Heute aus, und von diesem Heute ist seine Interpretation gefärbt. Das war vor 25 Jahren. Und im heutigen Heute Da lebt Guy Krneta, und er hat als scharfer Beobachter helvetischer Gegenwart das Fähnlein und Widmers Interpretation neu gelesen. Seine Erzählung blickt zurück auf Kellers Zeit, als die Schweiz entstand, streift Widmers Zeit und landet in der Gegenwart dieses Landes, die noch einmal eine ganz andere ist und in der ein Kulturkampf der besonderen Art tobt. 200 pp. Deutsch.
