In the publisher's first impression dust jacket, "18s net" retail price and "P3496" code on the front flap, two closed tears along margins of front panel, even toning to white matte borders, a very good example. This is the first impression dust jacket, with no mention of subsequent printings on the front flap. Signed by author and illustrator Maurice Sendak on half-title, with an illustration of a "Wild Thing" drawn in his hand. (Grolier Children's 100, 97) An exceptional signed copy. Maurice Sendak's Where the Wild Things Are was first published by Harper & Row in 1963 and won the 1964 Caldecott Medal. (Hanrahan A58). Signed.
