MAXWELL "fiction editor a "The New Yorker", spesso evoca autobiograficamente la dura vita rurale), ebbe poi nel 1982 il National Book Award per la narrativa. Il fasc. in-8° (cm. 24x17), bross, edit., p completo delle sue 172 pagine e contiene inoltre: 1) Jules ROY, "Le métier dea armes", racconto di 21 pagine; ROY, aviatore dapprima per Pétain, ma dal 1942 per De Gaulle, effettuò 35 incursioni di bombardieri con la Royal Air Force sulla Ruhr; questo gli ispirò "La Vallée heureuse" che gli valse il Prix Théopraste Renaudot 1946", e questo racconto. In Indocina nel1953 trovò poi disononorevoli i metodi dell'aviazione francese e si dimise. 2) G.
