    Hardcover. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. London: Printed for T. Cadell, in the Strand, 1773. FIRST Edition collated and complete. Two volumes, in recent dark calf with gilt titles to red leather labels, gilt lined raised bands, calf boards, new end papers, text blocks tight, tanned and foxed throughout, with some damp staining to the pages. Year of printing in biro to the title page of Vol II. Pages misbound to Vol I with pages 287-*290 bound in (incorrectly) at page 272. William Bromfeild (often, incorrectly, Bromfield) (17121792) was an English surgeon. Bromfeild was born in London in 1712, and, after some years' instruction under a surgeon, began at an early period to practise on his own account. In 1741 he began a course of lectures on anatomy and surgery which attracted a large attendance of pupils. Some years afterwards he formed with Martin Madan the plan of the London Lock Hospital for the treatment of venereal disease, to which he was appointed surgeon. In 1761 he was appointed one of the suite to attend the Princess of Mecklenburg on her journey to England to be wedded to George III, and after the marriage he was appointed surgeon to her majesty's household. Pagination: xii, 1-272, 287-288, *289, *290, 273-286, 289-325pp; [x], 379pp. Vol I with 5 folding plates, Vol II with 13 folding plates (plate IV bound in at the end). Signatures: Half title, A in gathering of 6, B to Z in gatherings of 8; A in gathering of 4, B-Aa, in gatherings of 8, Bb in gathering of 4, Cc in gathering of 2. Provenance: no inscription or bookplates. Approximately 8 ½ inches tall (21.5cm). Title good condition tanned and minorly foxed. Pages good condition foxed, tanned with minor marks throughout, some damp staining to the top edges of Vol I, creasing and waviness to the pages.
