Intéressante lettre sur une collaboration entre Chaumet et Guinand pour une ?uvre, Les Sirènes. Il ne pensait pas le délai aussi court et promet d'y travailler de manière intense, malgré plusieurs périodes où il sera à Bigorre pour sa mère et ne pourra donc pas travailler, « voulez-vous m'accorder jusqu'à la fin de septembre ». Il demande ensuite divers détails pour se mettre d'accord. Cette pièce fut jouée en 1880 et fut mal reçue par la censure (voir la Revue du monde musical de 1880, vol. 3, p.316). [279].

Il le previent de l'envoi d'une depeche pour la partition d' Herode qu'il devrait avoir recue. Il mentionne une affaire non explicitee qu'il pensait "enterree a jamais" et dont l'issue est bonne pour lui, il le remercie donc de l'en avoir informe. Dimensions : 11 x 18 cm. 3 pages. Il explique dans sa lettre que, la veille au soir, on lui a fait faire un "acte de folie" car il a conduit une oeuvre qui n'avait ete ni vue par les solistes ni par les choeurs et avec seulement deux repetitions d'orchestre. D'apres lui, conduire une premiere dans ces conditions n'a mene qu'a de mauvais resultats : orchestre a peine suffisant, solistes dits mediocres, choeurs tout aussi mediocres, bien que le public l'ait acclame. Il precise que c'est sa presence au pupitre ainsi que la sympathie du public qui a couvert les "faiblesses inevitable d'une execution" aussi pauvre. Dimensions : 13.5 x 21 cm. 3 pages.
