The long letters discuss his work, Wales and that pictures are available via his catalogue and through Manchester studios. William Dean Barker 1830-1888, landscape painter. William Dean Barker was born in Salford, Lancashire. His early artistic career began in Manchester as a pupil at the School of Art. Barker settled in the pretty Welsh village of Trefriw in a villa named Plas Celyn. He had a keen appreciation of the lovely valleys and mountains and was prolific in his output.
