Paperback. Condition: Good. No Jacket. Reeves, William (illustrator). Slight creasing to spine and minor scuffing to corners of cover, but otherwise a good clean tight copy of this soft-cover book. Originally published in hardback in 1949, a fantasy story for children by the author of "The Wind on the Moon", the story involves two boys helping Davy Jones and his sailors at the bottom of the sea to foil a plot by pirates who want to untie the knots that hold the latitudes and longitudes together. A talking octopus helps them out as well. 398pp, b&w drawings. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

The Rough story has a full page illustration, the Montanye story has a half-page illustration and there a few small illustrations. Two inch crease to the bottom right corner of the front cover but otherwise only very slight edge wear. Light browning to the pages with small chips to a number of top corners but the pages are otherwise unmarked. Postage charge will be reduced by £1.50 when the order is processed.

The edges of the text block are age tanned and there is a old moisture stain on the fore edge of the text block. Previous owners bookplate on the verso of the front wrap. Original Cloth. Condition: Very Good. Reeves, William (illustrator). First Edition. Spine has quite a bit of brown spotting over the surface and there is a spine lean. A few light surface marks on the front and rear panels and there are two small patches of fraying to the bottom edge of the front panel. Corners a little rubbed. Page edges browned with scattered brown spotting. The front and rear pastedowns are discoloured - they have a yellowish colouring. There is a trace of a price in pencil to the half title page which has some spotting along with the facing page. Similar spotting to the final page and the reverse of the rear free endpaper and the pages are slightly browned but otherwise unmarked. Illustrated by William Reeves. No jacket. First printing.

There is a two inch long ragged closed tear in the top edge of the front panel and smaller closed tears in the top and bottom edges of the rear panel and the bottom edge of the front panel.
