He also wrote the screenplay for the movie "The Big Country" Here is an excerpt form the jacket blurb of "And Ride a Tiger" : "Every man must ride a tiger of his own fashioning. He is unable to stay on and afraid to get off. Pike Yarnell's beast was conceived on a remote island in the Philippines in the closing days of the Japanese war when he buried Donald Beasley, who had survived a plane crash and ridden out eight terrible days with him on a raft. The tiger was whelped there and eventually carried him to Lothan, Georgia. Yarnell discovered there was no far corner to which man may run when he tries to hide from himself ."
