A transcription of the lecture William Scovell Savory delivered to the Royal College of Surgeons in 1887 for his Hunterian Oration. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto of the front endpaper. This volume previously belonged to the British surgeon, physician, and dermatologist Dyce Duckworth. Duckworth worked alongside Savory at St. Bartholomew's hospital, where the former managed the skin department. Established in 1813 and named after the pioneering surgeon John Hunter, the Hunterian Oration is a lecture given by a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Savory himself was the president of the College of Surgeons between 1885 and 1888, and primarily lectured on general physiology and the physiology of food. In this lecture, Savory praises John Hunter, and expresses the merits of comparative anatomy, physiology, and surgery. In the publisher's original blue paper wraps. Externally, generally smart. Lightly rubbed to the paper wraps, with some handling marks towards the edges. With a small closed tear to the fore edge of the rear wrap.
