Add to basketPaper. Condition: Good. First Edition. An Original Handwritten and Signed Letter by British Engraver William Wyon. Undated. A letter asking for the enclosed to be sent with the parcel. William Wyon RA 1795 - 1851 was a British engraver who was official chief engraver at the Royal Mint from 1828 until his death. He was the Chief Engraver of seals to the Queen. In late 1839 he submitted a drawing in India ink to Rowland Hill showing a sketch of the queen (with no crown) enclosed in circular writing saying "Post Office One Penny Half Ounce" Ultimately it was the basis for the now famous Penny Black stamp. Size is 188mm x184mm. Condition is good. Light folding creases. Opening seal loss. Gum mark to rear. Ref 19281. Signed by Author(s).
