Binding is firm. Evidently prepared as a course textbook at the University of Alabama. Author Dr. Clanton Ware Williams earned a bachelors from Davidson College in 1927, a masters from Alabama in 1938, and a Ph.D. in history from Vanderbilt in 1938. Dr. Williams taught at Alabama from 1929 to 1954 thereafter joining the University of Houston where he was served as president from December 1956 to 1961. After several overseas positions Williams served as the first executive director of the Alabama Commission on Higher Education from 1970-1974.
