Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. Garth Williams (illustrator). First edition was 1945, copyright was renewed1973 - this is a later reprint but not after 1992. Pictorial boards and unclipped dust jacket protected by archival mylar. Inscribed by the illustrator Garth Williams (1912-1996): "To Paul Horowitz and Ruth Jaffe with very best wishes. Garth Williams 1992", on front half-title. The original edition of Stuart Little was the first book illustrated by this prolific artist, who estimated that he'd illustrated about 97 children's books, also including Charlotte's Web, the Little House on the Prairie series, and The Rabbit's Wedding, which was almost banned in 1959 because it depicted a rabbit with white fur marrying a rabbit with black fur. As to that book, which he wrote as well as illustrated, Williams was quoted as saying that the book was not written for adults, who "will not understand it, because it is only about a soft furry love and has no hidden message of hate.".
