First edition. Tall 12mo (7 3/4 x 4 5/8 inches). xi, 316 pp. 10 plates of fish and tackle. Extra-illustrated with six additional angling related plates from other sources, two hand-colored. Westwood & Satchell, p. 241: "Essentially original." Heckscher 2274 (calling for 10 plates, as here). W&S call for 18 plates, apparently in error, as all copies we have checked have ten. With the major defect noted below and scattered foxing, still a good solid copy. Somewhat later diced calf (extremities rubbed), boards from with gilt ornamental scrolls, rebacked, the new spine with gilt angling devices and title between raised bands (top inch chipped away), marbled endpapers and edges. Full Leather. Condition: Good. First Edition. 20 x 12 cm. 12mo. xi 316pp. Bound into full period leather, though more recently re-backed, with red spine labels. Housed in a custom folding box. Illustrated with a total 12 copper engraving plates which include 6 numbered plates of tackle near the front of the book and 6 of various fishes inserted throughout the work (opposite pp 127,160, 181, 223, 229, 234). There is some unfortunate water staining to the table of contents and the tackle plates. Westwood & Satchell erroneously notes that this has 18 plates as every other copy I can find for sale or in auction records as well as the Heckscher Catalogue only have 10. This copy with 2 extra plates, style between the two sets of plates is similar so it is not clear to me which are the "extra" ones. Comprehensive look at fishing with many subdivisions for various fish (e.g. Lamprey, Mullet, Char, Salmon) as well as on building and using tackles, flies, lines, other fishing equipment.
