Authoritative and useful introduction to intensive eel farming, based on Japanese experience of the industry. Although Atsushi Usui is given as the author, and Ichiro Hayashi as the translator, the preface states that Dr. Gordon Williamson revised the translation and added new material, as well as revising the illustrations. According to an unpublished note written in the author's own hand in his copy of this edition: "Much of Usui's original text was out-of-date or concerned matters only relevant to Japanese readers, thus much had to be condensed or omitted. 14 new chapters had to be added to describe matter that were not covered in Usui's book". Chapters wholely by Williamson are: 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, and 21. .…
