Frontis tissue protected-The Fascinating Frenchman (original etching by F.W.Pailthorpe). Six more delightful monotone illustrations by Thackeray, who illustrated many of his books. Gray boards with beige title pastedown to spine, black titled. Sewn binding tight and solid-in remarkably good condition. Gray cloth is lightly soiled as from fingerprints, just a touch of corner wear, spine ends lightly compressed, title panel has a chip out of top edge, lettering clear. Top edge gilt. Fore-edge and bottom edge rough cut. Former owner name on endpaper. Pages very clean with wide margins, no markings of any kind, lightly toned-wonderful condition.
