Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. A community once known as the "Golden Buckle of the Cotton Belt," Washington, Georgia, was chartered during the Revolutionary War and was witness to both the birth of two-party politics in Georgia and the last days of the Confederacy. Washington grew up into a sophisticated and cosmopolitan city in the antebellum South, and is today one of the state's most historic places. In this engaging visual retrospective, readers will discover the Washington of days gone by in vintage photographs, many of which have never been published before. From the achievements of prolific leaders such as Robert Toombs and Garnett Andrews to the distinctive architecture of the city's earliest homes and buildings, this volume contains many treasured memories. Both longtime residents of Washington and visitors to the area will delight in this collection of images, culled from the Mary Willis Library, the Washington Historical Museum, and numerous private collections. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Publisher's original brown leatherette with spine and upper panel lettering gilt and a gilt State Seal of Georgia, octavo, unpaginated. Bibliography of 144 collectible Georgia volumes ordered chronologically, with many title page facsimiles. Endpapers cleverly designed with images of book titles. Condition is Very Good with light shelf rubbing on spine. Collectors browsing for this book will have noticed that some copies for sale include a "Corrigenda" (Errata or printing error) sheet laid in, as well as a statement of a 500 numbered copies limitation. This copy does not have the Errata sheet or a limitation number. We surmise that an initial numbered run was published with the Errata sheet, and that this particular copy may have been part of a later run after the 500 limitation, in which the "errors" had been corrected? So no need of the sheet describing the errors?
