Oversized Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. LIMITED EDITION. (1971). Tall 8vo. LIMITED NUMBERED EDITION one of 1950 copies. Uneven discoloration to textblock edges. Slight toning along cloth binding of barely rubbed boards with slight bumping to forecorners. Small sticker remnant to spine tail end. Light bumping and wear to corners of gently rubbed and faintly marked slipcase. Light scraping along edges of slipcase open end. VG in VG slipcase.

These exquisite scenes are from some of the most popular sites in the American Northeast and New England. Minor soiling top top edge of cloth, else a near fine, internally clean and tight copy housed in the original matching slipcase.

Full-Leather. Condition: Good. Second. Brown leather boards have a decorative gilt line along the margins, 10% of which has rubbed away. Spine, with five raised bands has lost its label and most of the gilt decoration; loss around head 5 mm in depth; front hinge of spine rubbed and split 3 mm at top and 3 mm at base, holding firm nevertheless. Internally a few splodges to endpapers; one, 1 cm in diameter seeping through to the next two (blank) pages. Half-title with ads on the reverse, title page completely clean (save for contemporaneous signature), dedication page, 2 page introduction, 4 page dedication, xliv (preface), 212 (starting with County of Bedford) + 30 pp Appendix (unpaginated). Gutter between rear endpapers partly exposed but holding firm. Pages clean and crisp Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Published for the Proprietors of the Romancist and Novelist's Library, with 4pp publisher's catalogue to the rear. Not widely held institutionally. This appears to the first UK edition. It was also published in Philadelphia by Lea & Blanchard in 1841. Little is known about the author, John R. Willis. In a card wrap. Externally, worn. Rubbing and bumping to the spine and extremities. Creases to the front and rear boards. The backstrip is missing. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are age toned with light foxing and the odd handling mark throughout. Light tidemark to the first few pages. Small closed tear to the title page. The work is good condition for such as scarce work. Good. book.
