Spine, with five raised bands has lost its label and most of the gilt decoration; loss around head 5 mm in depth; front hinge of spine rubbed and split 3 mm at top and 3 mm at base, holding firm nevertheless. Internally a few splodges to endpapers; one, 1 cm in diameter seeping through to the next two (blank) pages. Half-title with ads on the reverse, title page completely clean (save for contemporaneous signature), dedication page, 2 page introduction, 4 page dedication, xliv (preface), 212 (starting with County of Bedford) + 30 pp Appendix (unpaginated). Gutter between rear endpapers partly exposed but holding firm. Pages clean and crisp Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Creases to the front and rear boards. The backstrip is missing. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are age toned with light foxing and the odd handling mark throughout.
