This book explores the reasons behind the economic depression of the 1890s, arguing that it was caused by unwise legislation and government policy, particularly the repeal of the Sherman Silver Purchase Act. The author, an economic expert and lecturer, claims that the depression was brought on by the gold standard and a contraction of the money supply, which benefited wealthy bondholders at the expense of farmers and workers. This controversial perspective on a pivotal moment in American economic history sheds light on the ongoing debate over monetary policy and its impact on society. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
