Slight shelf wear. Title page is torn about two inches from bottom. Cover has a nifty gold 7 full on the front made to look like a trail showing a covered wagon. A bit rubbed toward top. Writer wanted every incident to be absolutely true, so she based the book upon the writings or oral testimony of the several Sager girls who survived the Whitman Massacre. The event was the climax of several years of complex interaction between the Whitmans, who had led the first wagon train along the Oregon Trail, and the local Native Americans. 221 pp.

Book itself mostly quite decent, tight and very clean incl no names no writing etc. but one-inch tear to three consecutive top edges, the first being one of the 8 b&w photographic plates in the book, with the tears (repaired carefully w/ archival paper tape) all ending just shy of doing any damage to one photo and to any of the text). Cloth covers nice corners, a little wear spine ends, 2 or 3 areas of very light fading from chips absent from the brittle dj & a couple of very small droplet signs. DJ dark purple bkg, price corner intact, very clean, but front panel couple of medium edge chips w/ couple of small tears, spine ends shallow chipping, back panel shallow chipping & short tears along both edges + all folds pretty serious rubbing/splitting (again, with careful repairs made). Owre s life tracked from Norway to Minnesota to Columbia Univ. Found no Engl lang wiki page, but Columbia Univ. has an article w/ photo used in this book as the frontis.
