This is a scarce set of journals of The Wine Label Circle - an association for those interested in wine labels in silver and other materials which identify the contents of decanters and other bottles. Not connected with paper wine bo…ttle labels. This is essential reference of those interested in the subject. Includes detailed studies on collections of wine labels and is well illustrated. These are really very scarce with the journals only being produced for the membership, which in volume 1 consisted of 23 named individuals. In later years the membership reached over 100 members, including some museums. The contents are a real labour of love - simply produced, but with a wealth of information. The set comprises 5 sets of journals which have been book bound and 3 clamshell style cases containing loose journals. The last of these contains loose reference material. They carry the bookplate of the previous owner 'DBI'. There will also be personal annotations throughout. Difficult to say if this is an absolutely complete run for its time, but it would be difficult to find a larger set on the market. Volume 1: from April 1952 to December 1956. Index at rear and bound-in Sotheby's Auction catalogue. Good condition. Some scuffing to cover and spotting to page edges. Contains real photographic prints. Some tape in places supporting the images. Volume 2 (Nos 1-7): April 1957 to April 1959. Good condition. Some scuffing to cover and spotting to page edges. Contains real photographic prints. Some tape in places supporting the images. Volume 3 (nos 1-5; Sanders Collection Sales: July 1961 to September 1963, plus additional reference at rear. Good condition. Contains real photographic prints, with occasional staining on the text pages as a result. Volume 3 (nos 6-10; Decanters). December 1963 - June 1964, plus additional reference at rear. Good condition overall, but front is stained at worn at lower right, with the board exposed at the corner. This has only a minor affect inside with the first 12 or so pages having some staining at the lower corner as well as the inside pastedown. Contains real photographic prints. Volume 4 (Nos 1-8; Oddments). June 1966 - June 1969, plus additional reference at rear. Front cover is heavily stained. This has only a minor affect inside with only the pastedown and first sheet having minor discoloration at edge. Contains real photographic prints, and taped in reference material.
